Manage my business rates payments
The first day of the month is the due date for all methods of payment. You must make arrangements to ensure your payments are received by this date. If you are sent a closing bill, then the full amount is due within 14 days and there is no right to instalments.
These instalments are due in advance on the 1st of the month not in arrears.
Payment frequencies
You can pay your business rates:
- monthly on the 1st of the month
- every six months - due on 1st April and 1st October
- annually - due 1st April
If you would like to pay your bill over 12 monthly instalments please submit a request using our general enquiry form. The request must be received by 1 February each year. If it is received after this date we will still spread your payments to March, but the number of instalments will be reduced.
If you are sent a new or revised bill after April, you will need to pay your bill in less than 10 instalments. You will be sent a bill informing you of the amounts and the dates to make payment.
Late or missed payments
You must allow enough time for your payments to reach your Business Rates account before the due date. If the payment is not received by the date shown on your bill, we may issue a reminder notice. This could lead to your monthly instalment arrangement being cancelled. If that happens, the remaining amount of Business Rates due for the year is payable in full straight away. For more information please see our If you miss your business rates payment factsheet.
