An unoccupied property held for a minister of religion is exempt from Council Tax. An example of this is an unoccupied vicarage that a minister will move into.

The exemption is indefinite.

Apply for an exemption for a property being held empty for a religious minister

You will need to provide a letter from the Diocese or relevant body. The letter must state:

  • the reason the property is empty
  • the date it became empty

  • Send the images using the Evidence form.
