Freedoms granted by Harrow

A Freedom granted by the borough is the highest award we can award. It can be awarded to an individual or corporate body. It is usually only awarded to those who have made a local, significant contribution. It can be awarded to those who have done something outstanding.

Honorary Freeman

The title of Honorary Freeman is the highest honour that we can award. It recognises someone's outstanding contributions to Harrow. 

The freedom resolution is passed at a special meeting of the council. The formal presentation usually takes place at a separate event. The certificate is usually presented by the mayor. View a list of Honorary Freeman.

Honorary Alderman

The Honorary Alderman is the highest award for a former councillor. It is awarded for exceptional service to the council. This is done at a special meeting of the full council. To find out more, see our Honorary Alderman page.
