Trees and benches can serve to celebrate and commemorate. We provide memorial or sponsored trees and benches, which can be placed in our parks, open spaces and on streets where suitable. You can also add a tribute plaque.

Memorial and sponsored trees
We have entered into a partnership with the charity Trees for Streets.
The Trees for Streets online platform is easy-to-use. It means anyone can sponsor a street tree in their neighbourhood by making a donation, and completing a few simple details. Upon completion a request it is automatically sent to the council, who then assess the chosen location for suitability. If the chosen spot is appropriate, they will make arrangements to plant a tree the following winter. This is the best time to plant young trees to ensure they grow and thrive.

Memorial benches
You can also donate memorial benches. They can be placed in many council owned parks, open spaces and on highway land within the Borough. Their situation is subject to approval by the council. For further details see our Memorial Bench Policy.
To place an order you will need:
- the location where you would like the bench to be placed
- the information you would like to put on the plaque
Due to high demand, there is currently a waiting time of up to 12 weeks for new applications.

Report an issue in one of our cemeteries
If you notice a fault with a memorial bench, tree or any other issue in one of our cemeteries you can report it online. One of our inspectors will take appropriate action.
If any issues are found and cannot be fixed at the time, we will fence off the location until the issue is resolved.
