A lucky winner from Stanmore has scooped £2,000 from our community lottery.
Harrow Wins is a fantastic fundraising platform for community groups and charities across the borough. More than £65,000 has been raised since its launch 2019. Imagine how much more we can achieve with more organisations on board, and players too! While there’s no jackpot winner yet, the weekly lottery has 210 players and 79 causes signed up.
The winner, who wishes to remain anonymous, is supporting Shaftesbury High School. They said:
“I have never won anything in a lottery before, so this came as a huge surprise. It’s an amazing return on a £1 weekly lottery ticket.
“It is great to see that the council has found another way to help vulnerable groups in the local community.
“For Shaftesbury High School, every ticket sold helps the school's Parent Teacher Association (PTA) support non-curriculum activities. This includes the school leavers prom. The funds have also helped buy musical instruments allowing students to take part in performing arts opportunities. Many will never have had these experiences before. Every penny counts to help improve the lives of students with special educational needs.”
Want the chance of winning and helping a local good cause too? At least 60% from each £1 ticket sold goes to good causes in Harrow, and there's a £25,000 jackpot to be won every week.
Cllr Janet Mote, Cabinet Member for Community & Culture said:
“Congratulations to our winner! It’s great to see our community lottery continuing to support local causes. These are people or groups that need that extra bit of help.
“As you can see it isn’t just about winning money, it’s about fundraising for local groups too. It could be a charity, scout group or school Parent Teacher Association.
“If you’re a local group looking for a no-cost fundraising opportunity, sign up today. The more organisations that join, more people will take part with better results for everyone.”
