Potholes – they’re a nuisance for drivers and residents. Last night cabinet approved an additional £6m towards the borough’s road resurfacing programme.
- Pothole squad launched to make urgent pothole repairs
- Innovative techniques to resurface roads quicker
- Long lasting roads to make journeys safer and more comfortable
It means we can take more proactive measures to maintain the borough’s roads and footways. This includes new innovative machines and the council’s brand-new pothole squad that will help tackle potholes and defects more efficiently.
We’ve already rolled out the pothole pro, and are exploring thermal road repairs. These machines are great for the environment, cost effective and get the job done quickly. There’s minimal waste, materials are recycled and repairs are long lasting.
Last year more than 1500 potholes were repaired in Harrow. This new boost will complement the additional funding and also the road resurface works which has already been planned in.
Cllr David Ashton, Cabinet Member for finance and highways said:
“Residents always tell us about the state of some of our roads. This last year we’ve done a lot to repair roads in disrepair, but we know more needs to be done. That’s why we’re investing more to permanently fix potholes and defects. Using state of the arts machinery, and our dedicated pothole squad, will help to fix even more potholes and ensure long lasting repairs.”
“This welcomed investment puts our residents first. Giving our roads first class treatment will restore pride back in our borough and keep our roads safe. This is what our residents want, and we will deliver on this as part of our key priorities for the year”.
Harrow’s 457.4km of road network and 935.1km of footways have been assessed for damage and defects. The most urgent defects will be prioritised for repair first. This is driven by condition data.
While £241k has been allocated for this year 2024/25, the capital investment funding of an additional £6m for planned carriageway and footway resurfacing programmes has now been given the green light.
