Recycling team

We’re delighted to be announced finalists for not just one award, but two!

  • Waste and recycling teams shortlisted for two national awards
  • Finalists for the Household Waste and Recycling Centre of the Year award
  • Finalists for Back Office Heroes Award

Our recycling centre has been shortlisted for the Household Waste Recycling Centre of the Year Award 2024 at this year’s Local Authority Recycling Advisory Committee (LARAC) awards. With the use of technology to deal with missed bins, our waste service have also been shortlisted for the LGC Workforce Awards.

While our recycling centre might not be as huge as other local authorities, it's an impressive site that offers 25 different outlets for waste. Around 18,000 people visit each month through a seamless booking system that has proven to be popular.

Staff are always looking at ways to improve recycling rates and thanks to their efforts, they have helped divert waste from being incinerated year on year - and general waste bought to the site has fallen significantly. It’s what has earnt them a place at the LARAC award finals.

The way we manage missed bin collections with the help of technology has earnt the Waste Development Team a place at the final of the LGC Workforce Awards. They are in the Back Office Heroes Category. The rollout of new technology has ensured a better customer experience with a dramatic reduction in missed bins. The joint effort between digital and waste teams had meant they are proactively dealing with missed bins quickly and efficiently.

It’s a proud moment for our waste and recycling teams on making it this far for two prestigious awards.

Cllr Stephen Greek, Cabinet Member for Performance, Communications & Customer Experience said:

“It's great to see all the hard work of our teams recognised. Over the last two years there has been significant improvements to help residents recycle better and ensure they receive quality service.

“There's still more to do to give residents better recycling facilities. Congratulations to our teams for making to the finals of these two awards. I wish them all the best when the awards take place soon.”
