We all want cleaner and safer streets. Thanks to a £270,000 boost to street cleansing and the expansion of our enforcement team, we’re continuing to restore pride back into our communities.
- £270k boost to restore pride back into communities
- Neighbourhood focused street cleansing teams deployed across borough
- New public protection team also deployed to find and fine fly-tippers
From the early hours our street cleansing teams are out sweeping litter and removing rubbish from thousands of streets across the borough. The new neighbourhood based street cleansing approach means staff have local knowledge, know the area and can address issues quickly. Residents will also get to see more of their local street cleaners.
Alongside this, we’ve grown our enforcement team to take swift action against those dumping waste illegally by fly-tipping. Last year 1147 fines were issued for fly-tipping. Fines have now increased to £1,000 and with more officers on the ground, they’ll be keeping an eye and investigating reported fly-tips to find and fine those offenders - and stop those thinking about fly-tipping.
Cllr Pritesh Patel, Cabinet Member for Cleaner Streets and Public Safety said:
“Everyone wants cleaner and safer streets. It’s one of the things residents always tell me about.
“That’s why we’ve invested £270,000 into street cleansing and expanded our enforcement team to find and fine those dumping waste illegally. It’s part of our plans to restore pride in Harrow. And our new ward based street cleansing approach means our staff know their local area and can address issues quickly.
“Fines for littering and fly-tipping have also increased to help deter these people from making our borough dirty. And we’ve also launched a wall of shame to find those making our neighbourhoods dirty and unsafe.
“We can’t do this alone. We need your help to identify those fly-tipping, and also to report street cleansing issues through our website so our teams can take the necessary actions.”
