The partnership between the London Borough of Harrow and Wates Residential, has moved forward with their regeneration of key council-owned sites in Harrow following the submission of plans for Byron Quarter.
- Plans submitted for 149 new homes on a disused site next to the Leisure Centre
- For trade only: This is the first application for partnership with a further application planned towards the end of the year
- Submissions follows extensive consultation with residents
- Designs respond to residents’ comments on previous designs – bringing lower heights and more family-sized homes
The new low-rise development will deliver 149 new quality homes – including 71 three-bedroom houses. The plans place the two and three storey houses along the boundary of the site to promote privacy and to better integrate with the character of the neighbourhood.
A new generous green space with relaxing seating areas and play spaces will sit at the heart of the development with walking and cycling links to the Belmont Trail and Byron Park.
Cllr Marilyn Ashton, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Planning and Regeneration, said:
“This submission marks an exciting milestone in our partnership with Wates and our regeneration plans for Harrow.
“Byron Quarter will deliver much needed new, and affordable homes with open and green spaces where Harrow people want to live.”
Leigh Johnson, Development Director, Wates Residential said:
"We’re delighted the submission of the Byron Quarter planning application marks a significant milestone for the Partnership with the London Borough of Harrow. We’d like to thank the local community for their feedback resulting in proposals that were created with and for local residents.
“We strongly believe that the proposals will greatly improve the quality of life for local people and families providing wonderful new energy efficient homes, and public spaces”.
The submission of the Byron Quarter development plans follows extensive consultation with residents. The redevelopment of the old driving school left empty for the last twenty years, will create much needed family-sized homes for Harrow.
Subject to planning approval, works will start on-site in mid-2025 The first residents are anticipated to move into new homes on-site by Autumn 2026.
The partnership will see an era of growth and community development in the borough’s Opportunity Area. In addition to Byron Quarter, the joint venture will also transform the Council’s old headquarters at the Civic Centre on Station Road. This will be known as Poets Corner
