We’re enhancing our adult social care services for people with additional needs, to offer more choice and more tailored services.
We launched our new Specialist Centres (formerly known as Neighbourhood Resource Centres). Kenmore is now a special hub for complex sensory needs and Vaughan an autism specialist hub.
The Mayor of Harrow officially opened the two new centres on Thursday 21 November. Along with cabinet member for adult services and public health Cllr Jean Lammiman and other council officials. They met with service users and staff and learnt about the great work that’s gone in to enhance services.
Our refreshed plans will offer residents more choice, better services, and help them live a more independent life. Adults with learning disabilities, autism, sensory and mental health needs will get the support they need in a way that allows them to be in ordinary places, doing the things they want to do that other people do, and helping them to make connections and develop friendships.
Cllr Jean Lammiman, Cabinet Member of Adult services and Public Health said:
“I had the pleasure of visiting our new specialist centres that have been enhanced further support some of our most vulnerable residents.
“Not only are we putting residents first but for those with additional needs it means they will get the support they need. Our new approach gives them more control and independence – and importantly allows them to do the things they want to do.”
We’ve worked with people who access the current services, and their families to develop innovative wellbeing centres that will support this.
Kenmore and Vaughan Neighbourhood Resource Centres are our first specialist centres to be developed for residents with autism, and behaviours that challenge, and profound sensory needs. New Bentley is the third site currently undergoing transformation to become a Health and Wellbeing hub.
This is one of 30 flagship actions to support those in need of support.
