Unlocking Harrow’s digital skills with Learn Harrow

Digital learners

Digital skills are more important than ever - and we’re making sure no one is left out.

More than 400 Harrow residents have enhanced their digital skills through our Learn Harrow programme. They’re now more confident online, more connected and live more independent lives.

Whether it’s learning how to report things online, sending emails or simply using social media to stay connected with friends and family – our programme offers vital skills and helps people do more things online safely and confidently.

It’s also more than just digital inclusion. With a wide range of courses, from beginner to high-level, some learners have also gained formal qualifications and secured jobs.

Councillor Norman Stevenson, Portfolio Holder for Business, Employment and Property, said:

“It’s so important that people have access to basic digital skills. In today's world, digital literacy is no longer a luxury but a necessity.

“That’s why we committed to supporting 100 learners to gain digital skills this year. But we’ve gone beyond to help more than 400 local people get online and stay connected.

“We’re putting our residents first, giving them the confidence they need to do things that they would normally not be able to otherwise.”

This scheme is one of 30 Flagship Actions set out in the council’s corporate plan to restore pride in Harrow. Under this is three key priorities – a council that puts residents first, a borough that is clean and safe and a place where those in need are supported.

Bhagirath Yogi, joined the Learn Harrow programme in November 2023. Since then, he has successfully completed three courses in English and digital skills and is boosting those skills with a further accredited digital course. He said:

“I’ve learnt a lot on this programme, from creative work such as designing posters, and editing images to using Google filters to research stories. These new skills will help me be more employable. The courses have also helped me with my day-to-day activities at home. I can now pay my bills online, order food shopping and takeaways for my family!”

Now it’s your turn! If you want to improve your digital skills or know someone who can benefit, Learn Harrow are running free assessments in January. This will identify your current skills and help you start your journey to becoming digitally independent. There’s support to overcome language barriers and build learners’ confidence too.
