Final draft of Harrow’s Local Plan to be examined and awaits approval
-
Hundreds of residents and stakeholders took part in an extensive consultation process
-
A planning inspector will review and assess the plans
Once approved and adopted, the local plan will help guide all planning decisions in Harrow for the next 16 years. Such as the approach to housing needs, infrastructure, economic sustainability, health and inequality, the local environment and protecting the suburban character of the borough.
The plan has been shaped by multiple rounds of consultation with residents and stakeholders who have fed back on the key principles for all future development in Harrow and the kind of borough they want to live in.
A planning inspector will now be appointed to review and assess the plans against legal requirements and national policy, including how the council has engaged and worked with the local community, neighbouring authorities and statutory bodies.
Once appointed, the inspector will set out the next steps and timetable to be followed in the examination process. The details will be published on the council’s website, when known.
Councillor Marilyn Ashton, Deputy Leader of the Council and Portfolio Holder for Planning & Regeneration said:
“This is a significant milestone for the future of Harrow, and I am delighted our Local Plan has been submitted for examination. Our plan ensures we put residents first and protect the character of our suburbs through development that is well planned, sustainable and meets the needs of residents.
“I’d like to thank everyone who has taken the time to give their feedback and suggestions. We look forward to supporting the Inspector in whatever way we can to ensure things move as quickly as possible.”
Following its recent Regulation 19 consultation, the council has prepared a summary of the consultation feedback which is available to view on the council website along with further information on the local plan process: www.harrow.gov.uk/newlocalplan
