In this feature of our corporate plan and flagship actions, we focus on priorities around street cleansing and enforcement
In February, cabinet agreed our next set of flagship actions. In it, they’ve agreed to do more keep our streets clean and safe.
£800,000 will be invested into street cleansing to keep our streets, parks and town centres clean, safe and tidy. That includes introducing new machines to remove graffiti, piloting a roving recycling centre and enhancing our ward based street cleansing teams.
We’re already putting the pressure on people dumping waste illegally. With over 30 cameras now installed in fly-tip hotspots – including 15 new ones - offenders are being caught. Recently, individuals have been traced and fined £1,000. These are also being paid. Last year alone, more than 1,200 fines were issued
Over the next year, we’ll be taking an even stronger approach to tackle fly-tipping. That includes the our wall of shame and targeted approach in our hotspots. We’ll also be working with businesses and residents to make sure they know how to dispose of their waste the right way.
Our days and nights of action will continue to keep Harrow safe and tackle anti-social behaviour. This year we are also introducing a knife crime education programme at some of our high schools – and we’ll help women and girls feel safe with more safe havens.
Cllr Pritesh Patel, Cabinet Member for Clean Streets and Public Safety said:
“While we have made some progress to make Harrow cleaner and safer borough, I know there is more we can do to restore pride in Harrow.
“Residents have told us what is important to them and we will ensure we action them. That’s why we are investing more into street cleansing, taking tougher action against fly-tippers and continuing to work with our partners to ensure people feel safe in Harrow.”
