We’re teaming up with Harrow Litter Pickers who are holding nine exciting clean-up events across Harrow to bring pride back to our streets.
The Great British Spring Clean is a national event led by Keep Britain Tidy. It starts with all of us, from using a litter bin, recycling or picking up litter found – everyone has a responsibility to keep our streets and open spaces clean and tidy.
Litter-picking is a simple action that anyone can do to make an immediate and visible difference to the environment where we live, work and play. 97% of people surveyed after 2024's campaign agreed they felt they had made a difference to their local area, and 86% said they felt part of a national movement that is taking action to tackle litter.
Cllr Pritesh Patel, Cabinet Member for Cleaner Streets and Public Safety said:
This is a great initiative that we are proud to support. We’re passionate about restoring pride back into our streets and open spaces. Litter picking is a great way to meet new people, help the local community and make a real difference to the environment.
“I’d like to thank Harrow Litter Pickers for organising several clean up events across the borough and encourage others to join. I know I will, along with many council officers.”
Since the campaign launched in 2016, millions of people young and old from communities, faith groups, schools, businesses and local authorities have united to help tackle litter.
Casey Dalton who leads the Harrow Litterpicking group said:
“The impact of an active and engaged community should not be underestimated - Harrow Litter Pickers are a local group of over 1200 volunteers who take a pride in our surroundings and help to keep our streets and parks clean. It's a fun and accessible activity suitable for all ages and abilities. This year for the Great British Spring Clean (21 March - 6 April) we will be litter picking a number of parks in Harrow. Do come and join any of our nine events; you can collect FREE equipment on the day or simply join the Facebook Group or Email to get started litter picking.”
