In this feature of our corporate plan, we focus on priorities around better roads.
In February, cabinet agreed our next set of flagship actions. In it, they’ve agreed to invest in our roads.
We’re paving the way for better and safer road journeys – that’s thanks to a £42 million investment into our roads and footways.
It's been a busy year repairing many of our roads and footways. Since April 2024, we've fully resurfaced 47 roads and 21 pavements, and more than 5000 potholes have been fixed.
We are going to go further this year. With our pothole squad offering a rapid response to fill these, alongside our pothole pro and thermal repair machines, we’ll be repairing more roads and pavements. We’re also making our road markings clearer and updating old street signs.
To make the parking experience better, this year we are going paperless with virtual parking permits in Controlled Parking Zones (CPZ). This will make it easier to park without the hassle of presenting a paper – it’s also an environmentally friendly approach.
Cllr Ashton Cabinet Member for Finance and Highways said:
“We know potholes and defects on our roads are a real issue for residents. We’re doing something about to restore pride back into our roads and make them safer for pedestrians and drivers. The use of innovative technology is already helping create long lasting repairs to our roads and footways.
“With this significant investment over the next three years, we are going to repair more roads and footways.
“We’re also doing more to put our residents first and make things easy for them. That includes going paperless with our parking permits. These are exciting and ambitious plans, and I look forward to seeing the positive difference these schemes have on our residents and Harrow.”
