In next of feature of our corporate plan, we focus on priorities around supporting those in need. In February, cabinet agreed our next set of flagship actions.
In the corporate plan, they’ve agreed to support care leavers, and families in need of support.
Children and young people will always be at the heart of everything we do. This year we’re supporting those in our care by offering care leavers employment opportunities. Work experience and jobs will be made available to them within the council. It will help them get a taste of the world of work and help them think about their future careers.
We support thousands of families with free school meals during the holidays and we’ll continue to do this. Since the launch of our family hubs network, it’s been great to see families and children benefit from the support available to them nearer to their home.
This year we’ll go further to enhance the network and improve access to health and social care. And for those with children who use our special needs transport service, we’ll make it easier for them to access and use the service with a brand-new app.
Cllr Hitesh Karia, Cabinet Member for Children’s Services said:
“I’m excited to drive forward our plans to put our children and families first. We’ve done some great things this last year to ensure children and young people have the best start in life and that families are supported.
“This year we’re going to do more to ensure those in our care, our families and our children get the right support, at the right time and at their right place. We’ll be doing more to go into our communities to provide better access to help and support that is closer to home.”
