Many of you will have seen in the news the desecration of Muslim graves at Carpenders Park Lawn Cemetery. Our thoughts are with all those affected.
Cllr Paul Osborn, Leader of the Council said:
“Like many of our residents I am deeply shocked and appalled by the events that took place at the Carpenders Park Lawn Cemetery in Watford where Muslim graves were desecrated. This affects our Muslim community here in Harrow who have loved ones buried at this site. My thoughts are with all those affected by this horrendous act of vandalism which Hertfordshire Police have confirmed as an Islamophobic hate crime.
“While investigations are ongoing, we are in regular contact with the police and Brent Council who manage the site who are looking at extra security measures to protect the area. We are also in regular contact with our local faith leaders and community groups to provide reassurance and ask that all instances of criminal activity and hate crime are reported to the police. Further updates will be provided when appropriate.”
