Celebrating the best of Harrow

In next of feature of our corporate plan, we focus on priorities around putting residents first and a clean and safe borough.

In February, cabinet agreed our next set of flagship actions. In it, they’ve agreed to celebrate the borough’s 60th anniversary since becoming a London Borough.

On April 1 1965, the Local Government map of London was created. Harrow became a London borough along with 31 other local authorities. It was the only borough where the boundaries didn’t change. A series of events and exhibitions will be taking place to mark 60 years. www.harrow.gov.uk/weare60

Everyone loves our parks and open spaces. This year we aiming to add Chandos Rec and Riverside Park as two additional Green Flag parks. It’s the first time in a generation we’re going to increase the number of award winning parks. We’re also preparing West Harrow Park as the ninth Green Flag Park next year.

With our parks, we want everyone to enjoy using them – that why in the summer and busier months, we’ll be carrying out more frequent bin collections in parks as well as install larger bins to help keep them clean and tidy.

Cllr Janet Mote, Cabinet Member for Community and Culture said:

It’s an important year for us as we mark 60 years of Harrow being a London Borough. We’re a borough rich in culture and heritage and I look forward to marking the celebrations throughout the year.

“We have some amazing parks and open spaces in Harrow for which £6m is being invested over three years. That includes installing large bins to help keep our parks tidy with more frequent collections. I am also excited to increase our Green Flag Parks from six to eight this year. These are all exciting plans to restore pride in Harrow and put our residents first.”
