What our new planning portal means for you

From 28th September to 16th October we are upgrading our planning system. This may impact some of our residents and customers who are interested in our planning services.

Why a new planning portal?

One of our priorities is to improve the customer experience for our residents and provide digital council services that are easily accessible and effective.

Our new planning portal will make it easier for residents to apply or look up and comment on planning applications.

It will put residents first by enhancing their journey through the planning process, from making an application to receiving an outcome and all points in between.

This flagship action will transform how our residents and customers access the planning service, while also ensuring our Planning Officers can work efficiently and effectively, improving our service.

During the update:

You are a resident and want to view planning applications and submit comments

While we are updating our planning system, we will be keeping the planning portal online so you will be able to view all registered applications up until the 27th of September.

You will also be able to make comments on those applications until Monday the 9th of October.

Applications received on or after the 27th of September will not be available until the new system has been implemented.

The consultation periods will be as normal and you will have an opportunity to view any plans, documents and make comments.

On the 9th October we will take down the planning portal while we switch it over to the new system. We do not anticipate this to take more than a few hours and will provide more details nearer the time.

You want to submit a new planning application

While we are implementing the system all applications submitted through the National Planning Portal will be held until the new system has been implemented.

At this point we will download all the applications and the team will start processing the applications in chronological order.

Our officers will be unavailable during this period as they will be working on getting applications up to date.

Our Duty Planning service will be available as usual. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause and appreciate your patience.

You want to report a planning breach

You will still be able to report a planning breach online during this period.
