Voter ID at polling stations
It is now a legal requirement for electors to show photographic ID when voting at Polling Stations. Expired photo identification will be accepted so long as the photo remains a good likeness to the elector.
Proxy voters will need to show their own photographic ID and not that of the elector they are voting on behalf of.
What identification will be accepted?
A wide range of forms of photographic ID are accepted. These include:
- Passports
- Driving licences
- Various concessionary travel passes
- Proof of Age Standards Scheme (PASS) cards
- Ministry of Defence identity cards
- Photocard parking permits issued as part of the Blue Badge scheme
The full list of acceptable documents can be found here.
What if I do not have any Photo ID?
If you don't have any of the required forms of photographic ID, you can Apply for a free Voter Authority Certificate from the Council.
Paper applications will also be available for those who cannot apply online.
