Potential Qualifications for a Career in Childcare 

There are several qualifications available. Depending on your experience and goals, you can choose from: 

Entry-Level Qualifications

  • Level 1 Award in Caring for Children: A great starting point for those new to the sector. 
  • Level 2 Certificate in Early Years Education and Care (or equivalent): Enables you to work under supervision in early years settings. 

Qualified Practitioner Roles 

  • Level 3 Diploma in Early Years Education and Care (Early Years Educator): The standard qualification to become a fully qualified practitioner. 

Advanced and Leadership Roles 

  • Foundation Degree in Early Years: Combines academic learning with hands-on experience. 
  • BA (Hons) in Early Childhood Studies or Education: Ideal for those aiming for leadership positions or further study. 
  • Early Years Initial Teacher Training (EYITT): Leads to Early Years Teacher Status (EYTS), allowing you to take on more senior roles.
