Fostering in Harrow

Could I be a foster carer?

Children and young people need foster carers from all backgrounds with a wide range of life experience, skills and qualities. It doesn't matter what your religion or cultural background is, whether you're single, married, in a civil partnership, a homeowner or renting, your ability to care for and nurture a child or young person is what matters.

To become a foster carer you need,

  • To be over the age of 21.
  • To have no child related criminal offences.
  • To be able to provide a suitable home environment.
  • To have a spare room available for children aged 2 and above.
  • Some past experience with children or young people, but you do not need to be a parent, or an expert!
  • Skills and qualities that will enable you to meet the needs of the children and young people you care for.
  • To be fit and healthy to meet the demands of fostering, but be assured that underlying mental and physical health conditions won't automatically rule you out.

To have time to commit to the children and young people you care for. You can still foster if you work, as long as your working hours are flexible enough to meet the demands of fostering, including:  taking children to and from school , going to meetings at short notice and taking/collecting child(ren) from supervised.
