Funding Individual Talent (FIT) Programme 2024/25

Introduction

Harrow Councils FIT Fund aims to encourage and support young people in sport, assisting them in their participation and development in their chosen sport. The fund will award grants to keen sports individuals to help them with:

  • Purchasing specialist equipment
  • Training / coaching fees
  • Facility hire costs for specific events

If you are striving to increase your participation and performance in your sport and live in Marlborough ward, you could be eligible to apply for a sports grant. We are looking for young people who are keen to participate in sport, committed and motivated.

There are three funding awards to apply for – bronze, silver or gold with grants of £100, £200 and £300 available. The grant awards can be used to purchase equipment or help with training or travelling costs.

Criteria for funding

Individuals will only be considered for the funding if:

  1. You are a permanent resident within the Marlborough ward in London Borough of Harrow.
  2. The sport in which you are participating is recognised by Sport England. (www.sportengland.org)
  3. You are 9 to 24 years old. In exceptional circumstances, applications may be considered if you are over 24 or under 9, meet the application criteria but are not receiving any other funding support.
  4. You can provide evidence of your current level of participation, attainment or ranking.
  5. Your application is supported by your accredited sports club or school.
  6. You are not in receipt of a current National Lottery Sports Fund or national governing body scholarship / grant.
  7. Priority will be given to those applicants who demonstrate great financial need (i.e. low income, in receipt of benefits)

Guidelines for applicants

  1. Individuals can only receive one grant fund per calendar year from the closing date of successful application.
  2. Applications cannot be made in retrospect. i.e. any expenditure already incurred will not be considered as part of the application.
  3. Awards are made towards the costs of a specific competition, coaching course, development camp or other similar event which can be shown to significantly assist the applicant’s participation and development in their chosen sport. It may cover: equipment, travel, accommodation, competition fees, specialist coaching fees, other similar expenditure.
  4. Awards will not be made to cover annual/quarterly club fees.
  5. Applicants must attach current proof of permanent residency in Marlborough where applicable.
  6. Applicants must provide a supporting letter (on headed paper) from the participating sports governing body, club team, or school confirming your current participation and level.
  7. Intended expenditure must be evidenced with the application e.g. web link of intended purchase or a confirmation letter.
  8. There may be a high demand for this grant. This means that if an application meets the criteria, it does not always guarantee that an award will be granted.

Terms and conditions

  1. The award or grant shall be used only for the purpose specified.
  2. If the event, course or activity for which the grant is given is changed or altered, cancelled or postponed or you incur a personal injury preventing your continued participation, the recipient shall notify the Economic Development team immediately and the award may be reconsidered.
  3. Individuals receiving grants will be required to acknowledge the support of the Marlborough FIT Programme by using “supported by Marlborough Ward FIT Programme” on publicity materials.
  4. Individuals receiving a grant will be required to provide the Council with a short account of how the grant has been used, evidence of spend through receipts, and feedback on how the grant helped with the progress of your sport. A summary report must be completed and submitted after the event for which funding has been given, and within deadline set from receipt of the grant.
  5. The London Borough of Harrow reserves the right to request proof of expenditure relating to any grants awarded.
  6. The London Borough of Harrow reserves the right to use your details in council/ service promotions and publicity.

Proof of age and residency will be required for this application, please see list of suitable identifications:

  • Passport
  • Birth Certificate
  • Driving Licence (UK) (Full or provisional) Isle of Man /Channel Islands; either photocard or paper (a photo card is only valid if the individual presents it with the associated counterpart licence; except Jersey)
  • Bank/Building Society Statement
  • Credit Card Statement
  • Utility Bill - electricity, gas, water, telephone – including mobile phone contract/bill
  • Addressed Payslip
  • Letter (on headed paper) from a Head Teacher/College Principle.
  • Sports Registration card (where applicable)

  • Demonstrate an accurate and value for money breakdown of grant.
  • Applicants who demonstrate great financial need (i.e. low income, in receipt of benefits)

Able to apply for sports grant up to £300.

 

 

 

Silver

  • Harrow borough resident of Marlborough ward. (Proof required)
  •   Aged 9 – 24
  •  Identified as someone who is keen to develop their participation and skill in their chosen sport. Where appropriate this can include progressing to participate at a higher level.
  • Official referral letter from NGB,  accredited club or school
  • Demonstrate an accurate and value for money breakdown of grant.
  •   Applicants who demonstrate great financial need (i.e. low income, in receipt of benefits)
