Special treatment licence

Making changes and other transactions

You may only provide the treatments that are stated on the licence. It is an offence to provide any other treatment.

Making a variation

When making a variation, any details of your licence can be varied except for the premises address.

You must include the therapist's qualification certificates. They must be for the new treatments. You will also need to explain the procedures used for the new treatments.

You can also add or remove therapists. If you are adding a therapist you will need to provide copies of the following:

  • Right to work document or nine digit ‘share code’ from GOV.UK for the new therapist(s)
  • Copy of qualification certificates.

If you have made a layout or structural change to your premises, you will need to provide an up-to-date premises plan.

Varying your Special treatment licence

To make a variation you will firstly need to:

You will then need to email the following details to licensing@harrow.gov.uk:

  • a copy of the payment receipt
  • details of your variation request
  • any relevant documents related to your variation request.

What happens next?

  • It may take 28 days for the amended licence to be issued. If the treatment is a new innovation we will need more time to research it.
  • New therapists must not use the approved treatments. They must wait until the variation is granted. They must also appear on the licence.

Therapist assessments

An apprentice tattooist or body piercer needs a therapist assessment. They need it to become a qualified therapist. The apprentice will be invited for an interview and assessment.

It will be conducted by the licensing officer. If you want to organise a therapist assessment, contact licensing@harrow.gov.uk.

Transfer of special treatment licence

The licence is personal to its holder. If you would like to transfer your licence, you will need to complete a new licence application form.
